Freeze-dried cultures are supplied in vacuum-sealed ampoules.
The delivery of strains is done by accredited carrier according to the regulations on the air and road transport of Dangerous Goods.
Care should be taken when opening the ampoule to ensure the safety of the person who opens the ampoule and to prevent contamination of the culture. Instructions related to opening of the ampoules and culture conditions (culture media, incubation) are given in the information data sheet provided with strains. Unopened ampoules should be kept in a dark place and in contant temperatures conditions until use.

( Distribution of strains is restricted to 20 stains per enquirer of the same laboratory. For order of 20 strains or more, please contact the CIRM-BP for specific conditions. Enquirers should be able to guarantee that strains sent by the CIRM-BP will be handled under appropriate biosafety conditions.
Classification of bacterial pathogens is according to directive 2000/54/CE of the European Parliament and the council on the protection of workers from risks related to exposure to biological agents at work)

The provision of reference strains is an essential component for the research, the advancement of life sciences, the support of the biotechnology sector and the further development of the bio-economy. The CARE OHEJP project partly focused on gathering and characterizing bacterial strains from national collections, BRCs and European reference laboratories to constitute a reference strains collection of zoonotic and food-borne pathogens. CIRM-BP as one of the three BRCs partners of the CARE OHEJP project, is maintaining a part of this collection with Bacillus, Campylobacter, Listeria, Salmonella and Staphylococcus strains. For CARE reference strains, the base price is of 100€ per strain (70 € for CARE project partners) with a 10% discount beyond 10 strains ordered. In addition to the net price, preparation and shipping costs will be applied.

The DNA samples are stored in micro-tubes and preserved at -20°C at CIRM-BP.
They are delivered at room temperature by carrier.
The minimum quantity delivered by sample is 800 ng.

Two levels of quality of DNA are proposed depending on strains:

  • Superior quality DNA with control carried out as follows:
    • Gel Migration
    • Nanodrop quantification
    • PCR Amplification
    • Molecular authentication
  • Basic quality DNA with Quality control carried out as follows:
    • Gel Migration
    • Nanodrop quantification

In the case of a long-term storage (several months), it will be preferable to store the DNA at -20°C.
In the case of a short-term repeated use, storage at +4°C is preferable in order to avoid freezing-thawing cycles, which may degrade DNA.
